MISSION STATEMENT
The
Monte Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving
the quality of life for disabled stroke victims living within the
United States. We specifically provide wheelchair-accessible options,
not covered by Medicare or insurance, for more safety, freedom and ease
of living within the home and also the mobility to leave the home with
personal transportation. Our goal is to provide relief and support, not
only for the disabled, but for their caregivers and families.

ROOTS OF THE FOUNDATION
The
Monte Foundation was established in December 2008 in honor of George
Monte Rice, who on December 1, 2006, suffered a massive hemorrhagic
stroke (brain aneurysm), leaving the left side of his body paralyzed.
The attending physicians were amazed that he survived such a
life-threatening stroke, and the Department of Neurology at University
of Iowa Hospital has asked him to participate in research to help
better understand the effects of stroke on the brain. Mr. Rice
willingly submits to long days of testing in the hope that this
research will help other stroke victims.
