THE SOLUTION
By
providing the means to create a more handicap-friendly home environment
along with wheelchair-accessible transportation, we give the disabled
and their caregivers the freedom to enjoy a better quality of life. Attempting
to "make do" in a handicap-non-friendly environment is stressful and
dangerous. With the proper home modifications for safety and more ease
in daily activities such as showering and grooming, special furnishings
such as lift chairs and adjustable beds to help alleviate pain, and
room-to-room mobility, both the caregiver and the disabled can adjust
more easily to their unexpected change in lifestyle.
With
properly equipped vehicles, both the disabled and caregiver have the
freedom of leaving the home to attend church, visit the doctor, spend
time with family, and enjoy outings and events together that they would
otherwise need to forfeit. With the limits of a disabled and
wheelchair-bound lifestyle, the ability to get away becomes even more
important and should be considered a basic freedom.
By providing
helps for caregivers in the form of massage therapy, gym memberships,
support groups, and assisted care, caregivers are able to feel whole
and supported in their demanding role. They are more likely to avoid
injury and have the physical and emotional capacity to continue in
their role as caregiver.
